Feeling Good

The soap and water was set aside for a professional

makeover - face, hair and clothes - and Jenny Tarran

was there to report on its outcome.

Kerrie Hurrell admits that her beauty regime is

more about soap and water than anything else,

and hacking into her own fringe when she has

trouble seeing through it.

Ms Hurrell works long hours as a fi nancial business

analyst with NIB and with a husband who

works at night, she prefers to spend the time they

have together as a couple, rather than in a beauty

and hair salon.

The result of such a busy lifestyle is that it has

been too long since Kerrie had a pair of hairdressing

scissors tame her mane, and as for the homeapplied

colour, well, even she admitted it was

time for some professional help.

FR took Kerrie to Crysalis Hair and Body in

Cooks Hill, which is a one-stop pampering palace,

to prove that looking good doesn?t mean

missing out on life?s other pleasures.

In a matter of a few hours, Kerrie was transformed

with a facial, massage, pedicure, cut,

colour, blow dry and make-up.

First there was a facial and mini massage, followed

by a quick cut and then the colour went

on, during which she was given a pedicure and a

hand rub, before her hair was washed, dried and

make-up applied.

And the results are spectacular, particularly

teamed up with an outfi t from Ritzy Labels, Marketown.

The skin:

Beauty therapist Jaimie Zivko started off by

scrubbing Kerrie?s feet, then giving her an Aveda

facial after working out what skin type Kerrie was

and her preferred scents. The treatment included

a facial massage and scalp massage. ?I gave her

a self-renewal facial, her skin is oily, but there

were some dryness in patches,? Jaimie said.

Kerrie said: ?It was so strange, I?d never had

so much done before, it was a huge leap of trust

because I was there with my eyes closed, waiting

for the next thing to happen, but it was lovely, it

was so good, it really was hard to stay awake?.

The hair colour:

When Kerrie turned up Crysalis director Suzanna

Deloraine started matching colour-wheels of hair

against Kerrie?s skin, watching Kerrie?s reactions

to the different colours. "When Kerrie came in

wearing colours, layers and beads, I realised she

would like bold colours, and her face lit up at the

auburn and the copper colours."

Kerrie said: "Those colours are really good, so

bright, so me and Suzanna just seemed to realise

what would suit me. And the best thing is

the darker colour is similar to my own and is all

over, so that as the lighter foils grow out it won't

be so obvious. It is just a beautiful combination

of colours".

The hair cut:

Ms Deloraine gave Kerrie a more gamine, or pixie

cut, feathering out her heavy fringe and taking

away the bulk around her neck. "It was good to

get rid of the hair, she has such an urchin face

and this haircut has really framed her face, it is

more her personality, it's cheeky, the eccentricity

is coming out," Ms Deloraine said. "And I literally

grabbed the hair dryer and dried it and it fell into

place. It?s a great haircut for her, it is easy to dry

and go, a look that is easy to achieve at home."

Kerrie said: "Wow. Seriously, I love what she has

done with the fringe, and you should have seen

how she just dried it and it fell into place, this is a

great haircut, it will be so easy to do before I rush

out of the house in the morning".

The make-up:

Ms Zivko waxed Kerrie's eyebrows to draw out

her eyes, and using Aveda make-up, showed

Kerrie how to open up her eyes to achieve a

fl awless fi nish. "I've also used a darker, warmer

foundation. This one has yellow base tones, not

pink or apricot, so it is a much better colour for

her. Because I used this colour I didn?t have to

use any concealer."

Kerrie said: "I always go for the porcelain-coloured

foundation, I would never have thought to

go darker, I was always worried about having a

really visible make-up mark, but this is incredible,

it evens out my colouring. I love my eyebrows as

well, my eyes are now huge.

The clothes:

Black velvet Marco Polo skirt ($99.95) with a

Sandra Steiner cami top ($130) and matching

bolero ($140) with a large pearl and diamonte-

studded heart pendant ($65) and Colors

handbag ($49.95) all from Ritzy Labels at Marketown

Shopping Centre. Kerrie?s own heels.

Kerrie said: "I love the skirt, it is beautiful. The

outfi t overall would be good for the race track".

The verdict:

"When I looked in the mirror once the makeover

was complete, I asked is that really me looking

back with the new hair and great make-up, I

looked so relaxed, it all looked so good," Kerrie

said. "I never knew I could feel so good, I damn

near fell off the beautician's table I felt that relaxed

and fl oppy, like all the tension had just

fl owed away out the door."
